Charlie Fripp & Monique Robinson | We stuck to the gameplan in Derby County victory

Charlie Fripp

Albion Women Interim Head Coach Charlie Fripp says his side played some “unbelievable football” to beat Derby County on Sunday afternoon.

The Baggies secured their seventh victory in-a-row across all competitions by beating the Ewe Rams, with Jess Collyer and Monique Robinson (2) on target in Mickleover.

And after their positive momentum continued to roll on, Fripp says his side continue to get through every challenge they’re faced with.

Albion Women celebrate against Derby County.

He said: “The girls battled well. They knew it was going to be a physical test, and at times we played some unbelievable football.

“We wanted to use some of the patterns and some of the movements that we worked on, because we felt that was the best way to pick the opposition apart, and it did so. We’re three goals to the good and three points happier.

“We’re resilient all the time, and that showed in that five-minute spell. We stuck to the game plan and kept putting pressure on the opposition and got the reward from it.

“There was a lot of great effort in front of goal, but you can’t have any qualms because we still scored three goals and played incredibly well in that area.

“We’re a great team, and everyone plays their part. The girls are a good group, and they know how to get through the next challenge; they keep buying into it, and I couldn’t ask for more.”

Monique Robinson.

Brace-scoring midfielder Robinson got Albion on their way to an important win in Derbyshire; she says the team executed the gameplan well.

She said: “It’s a massive three points. We got the goals as a group, and we got closer to what we wanted to achieve.

“It’s a tough place to come; they play in a block, and we had to execute the game plan well. I felt we did that today.

“The second was the best one; the first was a bit of a scramble, but it was great from Izzy, and I’m glad she passed it.

“We’re aiming high this season, so we’re pleased to get that win to get us closer to that.”
