Albion Women Interim Head Coach Charlie Fripp believes his side “showed up” to beat Sporting Khalsa on Sunday afternoon.
The Baggies ran out 2-0 victors over their fellow Midlanders, as strikes from Jess Collyer and Monique Robinson ensured they finished at the top of FAWNL Cup Group N.
And after another positive display, one whereby winning ensured their sixth triumph on the trot, Fripp couldn’t hide his pride in his team’s showing.
He said: “It was a good performance. The girls showed up today and played the style of football we wanted to play.
“We scored twice and created more opportunities to do so, we’d have liked to have converted a few more, but we’re still pleased with our efforts today.
“Sometimes the strike isn’t the best, the ball bobbles up, and you can’t make the most of it - but to still score twice and win the game - of course I’m pleased.
“To play at The Hawthorns in midweek is heavy, and the girls were feeling it on Thursday. We prepared them right, and they came out in full force today, you could see that early doors today, and I know they’ll look out for themselves - the team will make sure they do.
“We want to go as far as we can in this competition, but the objective is always to win the game, and they’ve done that. We should be proud of ourselves for that.
“Six wins in-a-row was the record last year, we want to keep that going, and every day we have that as our goal. To have that goal is nice.”
Though the team’s momentum is getting plenty of plaudits, forward Collyer is building some of her own after scoring for the second match on the spin at the Alexander Stadium on Sunday.
She said: “It was a good game. We performed better than we did on Wednesday, which is what we wanted.
“We created a lot of chances in the first half, and we feel we could’ve put more of them away. Overall, it’s good to get the win.
“I was really happy to score again. As a forward player, you always want to contribute, and it’s great to get another goal today after getting one in midweek.
“It was on my less dominant foot, so I thought to shoot, and luckily it went in. I felt confident coming into today; when you get a goal, it’s great to carry it on into this week.”
