Carlos Corberán | We weren't good enough at Boro

Carlos Corberán is interviewed after Albion's defeat against Boro

Carlos Corberán offered an honest review of Albion’s defeat at Middlesbrough in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Morgan Rogers’ first-half effort was enough to seal all three points for the host as the Baggies left Teesside empty-handed.

And the boss accepted his players didn’t do enough to earn anything from the encounter at the Riverside Stadium.

Carlos said: “The result today was fair. Middlesbrough were better than us.

“The result shows they were better than us and they performed better than us.

“They competed better than us and when we don’t compete in the best level, it’s difficult to achieve the three points.

“The game started fairly evenly but little-by-little they made us defend deeper and deeper and that’s something we didn’t want to happen.

“In the moment they scored, we were defending deeper and we needed to be more aggressive. Unfortunately we couldn’t find the energy.

“It was clear in the second-half we had to react and be more aggressive and we needed to attack better. We lost the ball too many times and that created transitions and also meant they were defending comfortably.

“Our attacks didn’t finish with chances for us, they finished with chances for them, which is really disappointing.

“We needed to be more aggressive in the press in an effort to change the dynamic of the game.

“In the last third of the pitch, we didn’t produce enough. It’s a game we’ll have to review and analyse because we didn’t compete and the required level today.

“In the first-half their goalkeeper made a good save, but in the second they were defending with many players behind the ball and that made it difficult for us.

“It’s disappointing and we need to do better in our next game.”
