Carlos Corberán | We had to be mature & focused

Carlos Corberán is interviewed after Albion's win at Home Park

Carlos Corberán believes his side matured into the contest as they swept Plymouth Argyle aside 3-0 at Home Park on Tuesday night.

The first 45 minutes were tight and even, but the Baggies completely dominated the second period, scoring three times through Cedric Kipre, Mikey Johnston and Tom Fellows.

The win was Albion’s first on the road in 2024 and Carlos says the encounter turned when they started to find the “advantages” on the pitch.

The boss said: “We knew that tonight’s game would be a really competitive test for us.

“I think before losing to Leeds on Saturday, they hadn’t lost any of their last ten at home in the league.

“We needed to be very focused and very concentrated to achieve the result we achieved.

“As the minutes passed, we started to find the advantages on the pitch. It was important not to get frustrated and to keep on insisting doing the things that we were doing well.

“We matured in the game and created a lot of chances in the second half.

Carlos Corberán applauds Albion fans at Plymouth

“We had a lot of set-pieces in the first half and it was important to use the possibilities better. It was pleasing to score from a set-piece to open the scoring tonight, but we know we want to improve in the attacking penalty area in terms of set-pieces.

“The second goal was all about having first-team players to come on and produce a moment like that. Mikey made a big difference to the result tonight.

“There are no words to say thank you enough to our fans. They have shown how committed they are with the club and the team.

“It’s easy to see the love they have for the team.

“Having them here today has been the best feeling for us and I am very thankful.”
