Carlos Corberán: 'We deserved the victory'

Carlos Corberán is interviewed following his side's 1-0 win against Blackpool

Carlos Corberán believes Albion’s much-needed 1-0 victory over Blackpool on Tuesday night was a fully deserved one.

The Baggies claimed their first triumph in four matches thanks to Okay Yokuslu’s late strike – his first in Albion colours.

And the boss says he saw “personality” in his team tonight and was pleased with their performance.

Albion players celebrate against Blackpool.
Okay Yokuslu's first Albion goal secured three vital points

He said: “It was a really important three points tonight because we understand the situation which we are facing in terms of not being where we want to be.

"We achieved the target which was winning the game.

"It was important to get that first step of winning a game, especially at home in front of our fans because we want to create a level of togetherness here which will help us become stronger as a team.

"Today we were creating more than enough chances to win the three points.

"It’s not important how nice the goal was or wasn’t, the most important thing was to score it and to keep a clean sheet.

"Keeping clean sheets will allow to get at least one point in games and then we know with the quality of our team we will create chances to score goals.

"I don’t have any doubt that we deserved the victory tonight. From the very start I saw a team with a lot of personality.

"Sometimes it isn’t easy to come up against a team which defends deep and close to their box.

"We managed the game really well though and we created enough opportunities to feel as though the points were deserved.

"Winning always gives you confidence. However, if you are waiting for the results to give you the confidence then you are not going to get the results.

"Confidence is knowing that you can do what you have to do. For me, this is what confidence is all about."
