Carlos Corberán | I'm really pleased with players' mentality

Carlos Corberán is interviewed after Albion's win against Aldershot

Carlos Corberán was really impressed with the players’ mentality in Albion’s 4-1 victory over Aldershot Town in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday.

The Baggies comfortably defeated the Vanarama National League outfit at The Hawthorns thanks to strikes from Nathaniel Chalobah, Jovan Malcolm, Daryl Dike and Tom Fellows, securing safe passage to the last 32 in the process.

Corberán’s men were instantly able to assert their dominance in the tie, going 3-0 up inside 30 minutes and taking the wind out of Aldershot's sails.

The boss reserved a special mention for the senior players in the team and spoke highly about the way they all approached the game.

Carlos said: “For us today, it was really important to compete well and move to the next round. Thankfully we have been able to achieve that.

“I think the team started the game with a lot of positive mentality. They were playing with determination to go for the result we all wanted to achieve and to not give any options to the opponent to balance the game.

“We were calm in the second half and had more of the ball. In this moment it was important to use the transition and increase the scoreline, but unfortunately, we could only do this at the very end of the game.

“Unfortunately too, we have conceded a goal in the last action of the game.

“In my opinion, scoring early goals was the key today.

“When you play in these games and you don’t get early goals, the game can become a lot more balanced and the opponents can feel like they have a lot more possibilities.

“That’s why I’m pleased with the mentality of the players, especially in the first half.

“I am very pleased with the mentality of our experienced players, especially the ones who have played lots of league games. They arrived today and helped the team play with that type of mentality.”
