Albion Women were beaten by FAWNL Northern Premier leaders Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.

Three Clarets' strikes were enough to condemn the visitors to defeat in Lancashire.

Baggies boss Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made three changes to the side that beat Rugby Borough in midweek. Lucy Day, Phoebe Warner and Ellie May were all handed starts as the visitors felt the effects of their double match week.

A combative start greeted supporters at Turf Moor as Monique Robinson almost picked off Kirstie Levell’s pass, prior to the hosts probing with attacking efforts from Millie Chandarana and Jade Richards.

Burnley continued their spell of pressure into the latter stages of the first half, and duly got their opener. Winger Charlie Chadwick beat Taylor Reynolds in a race down the touchline, before leaving Yana Daniëls to prod home at the back post.

Albion made a much brighter to the second period, but Charlotte Clarke still had to bat away a header from Jasmine Matthews as the Clarets threatened from an early corner.

Creative midfielder Robinson scampered away with a loose Burnley ball on the hour mark, leaving her time and space to play May through on goal, but she could only shoot at Levell.

Despite a much-improved second-half showing, Claudia Mummery-Walker got in-behind the visiting back-line to produce a composed finish and double the hosts’ lead.

A late third from substitute Heidi, the last kick of the encounter in Lancashire, ensured the Baggies went home empty-handed.
