West Bromwich Albion travel south to take on Bristol City at Ashton Gate in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm).

The Baggies head into the encounter on a three-game unbeaten run. James Morrison's team collected a massive 3-0 triumph over Hull City at The Hawthorns last weekend thanks to efforts from Josh Maja, Aune Heggebø and Isaac Price.

Hosts Bristol City picked up a dramatic point at automatic-promotion chasing Middlesbrough in their most recent fixture, with Adam Randell scoring a last-gasp equaliser.

The two sides last met at The Hawthorns on Boxing Day. A late Ousmane Diakité goal wasn't enough to rescue anything as Anis Mehmeti and Ross McCrorie made sure of the points for the Robins.

The opposition

Bristol City have lost ground in the race for the top six in recent weeks and head into Saturday's showdown with the Albion without a win in their last five games in all competitions.

The Robins had been beaten by Watford, Coventry City and Leicester City in the second tier, as well as Port Vale in the Emirates FA Cup, before their last-gasp draw at Middlesbrough last weekend.

City fans will hope that Adam Randell's goal in the dying stages at the Riverside Stadium can help inject positivity back into their campaign after a challenging set of results.

Last season's beaten play-off semi-finalists, who are sat in the middle of the Championship pack this time around, will be determined to pick up three points in front of their own supporters on Saturday, having not won any of their last four at Ashton Gate (D1, L3).

They've suffered defeats against Derby County (0-5), Watford (1-2) and Coventry City (0-2), but they did draw 2-2 with play-off chasing Wrexham last month. Their overall record on home soil in 2025/26 is seven wins, four draws and eight defeats from 19 fixtures.

Austrian Gerhard Struber is Bristol City's boss. The 49-year-old took over last summer and has previously managed Wolfsberger AC, Barnsley, New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg and Cologne. He was a midfielder back in the day and won the Austrian Bundesliga in 1996/97 with Austria Salzburg.

Albion's recent record at Ashton Gate

Bristol City 2-1 Albion, April 2025

A 96th-minute winner broke Albion hearts on our last visit to the Robins. Nahki Wells opened the scoring shortly after half-time before Alex Mowatt drew the Baggies level just six minutes later. It looked as though the points were going to be shared until Haydon Roberts clinched a winner for the hosts with less than 90 seconds to play.

Bristol City 0-0 Albion, September 2023

A goalless encounter early into the 2023/24 season saw Bristol City strike the post before Josh Maja had a penalty shout waved away in the second half. It was Albion's first clean sheet of that campaign.

Bristol City 3-0 Albion, January 2023

City were comfortable winners on home soil against Albion in this Emirates FA Cup fourth-round clash. A Sam Bell brace - either side of Alex Scott's strike - were enough to see the Robins through to the next round of the competition.

Memorable meeting

Albion recorded a resounding 3-0 triumph in the Sky Bet Championship at Ashton Gate in February 2020.

Callum Robinson's goal meant Slaven Bilić's team went in 1-0 up at the break. Hal Robson-Kanu then bagged a brace in the second period to secure all three points.

Pre-match stats

Bristol City have won the last two head-to-heads 2-1, claiming a triumph at The Hawthorns on Boxing Day and also in April 2025 at Ashton Gate.

That defeat at Ashton Gate last season was the Baggies' only loss there in their last five league visits (W2, D2).

At least one team has scored exactly two goals in seven of the last nine meetings between Bristol City and West Bromwich Albion.

Albion are hoping to extend their unbeaten league run to four matches this weekend. The last time the Throstles achieved that was during a run of six between April and August in 2025.

Bristol City are winless in five. The last time they went six matches without claiming a victory was during a run of six between October and November in 2022.
