All of Albion's academy graduates out on-loan featured for their respective clubs over the weekend.

Midfielder Cole Deeming had a tough afternoon with Cheltenham Town as Steve Cotterill’s team were beaten 5-2 at Notts County.

While the final scoreline would suggest otherwise, the Robins were very much in the encounter well into the second period - taking the lead after 10 minutes through Isaac Hutchinson and although the Magpies hit back to create a 2-1 advantage, Hutchinson netted again to equalise heading in at the halfway point.

Sadly, the game was quickly taken away from them on the 66th and 72nd minute, where two further goals from the home team at Meadow Lane created a two-goal gap between the sides by the time Deeming was brought on for the last quarter of proceedings.

Sam Sherring’s dismissal nine minutes from time made it even more difficult for Albion’s 19-year-old loanee to make an impact on the match, and Tyrese Hall added a fifth goal deep into stoppage time to confirm defeat for Cheltenham on the road.

Saturday marked the Deeming’s 11th appearance for the Gloucestershire outfit.

In the division above, Akeel Higgins came off the bench for Sky Bet League One side Exeter City but couldn’t change their fortunes, as they suffered another defeat against Wigan Athletic.

The academy graduate entered the fray on 65 minutes with the Grecians trailing by a goal following Joe Taylor’s fifth-minute opener for the Latics at the Brick Community Stadium.

Although the 20-year-old tried to help City find a leveller in the encounter, his loan team were undone five minutes before the end of regular time when Fraser Murray netted a second for Wigan to confirm victory and stretch Exeter’s run without a win to 13 matches.

Higgins’ introduction to last weekend's contest was his 29th appearance for the Devonshire outfit.

It was an important Saturday for Baggies youngster Evan Humphries and his loan club Oxford City, who secured a vital three points thanks to a 2-0 win against Chorley.

The defender played the full 90 at the MGroup Stadium and helped the National League North outfit keep a clean sheet on home turf, as second-half goals from Ewan Clark and DJ Campton-Sturridge handed Ross Jenkins’ team a much-needed win.

Maximum points means Humphries’ loan club currently sit above the sixth-tier relegation zone in 20th place by four points, although Hereford and Alfreton Town in the occupied spots below them have at least two games in-hand.

Centre-half Jamal Mohammed retained his usual place in Gloucester City’s starting XI over the weekend, but was involved in a rare defeat for the Tigers.

It ended in a 3-2 loss to Uxbridge for the defender and his team-mates on home soil, with Mohammed playing the entirety of proceedings.

Despite taking a 2-0 lead during the first half of the encounter, Daf Williams’ men let their advantage slip as they fell to an eighth defeat of the campaign, and a place down the Southern League Premier South Division standings to third spot.

Finally, striker Dan Chimeziri played the last 10 minutes of Northern Premier League Premier Division side Rushall Olympic’s 1-1 home draw with Gainsborough Trinity.

All the action happened after the interval for the Pics, with Trinity seizing the initiative midway through the second period and missing a spot-kick which would prove costly, as Chimeziri’s team hit back with a leveller courtesy of fellow substitute, Alex Moore.

With the game poised heading into the last knockings, the Albion youngster was brought on to try and help Rushall find a winning goal on 80 minutes. Sadly, he was unable to find a deciding goal, meaning Ian Long’s team had to settle for a point - one which leaves them 17th in the table.
