Three Baggies youngsters featured for their loan clubs on the final weekend of action before Christmas.

Midfielders Harry Whitwell and Cole Deeming both completed full games in the Enterprise National League, but had very contrasting emotions at the end of their respective encounters. 

Whitwell helped Forest Green Rovers to a 2-0 triumph at Yeovil Town, a result which means they head into the festive period sat joint-top of the table with Rochdale on 49 points after 20 fixtures. 

Temi Babalola scored first and the visitors made it 2-0 when Jed Ward turned the ball into his own net. Harvey Bunker was sent off in the middle of the second 45 for Forest Green, but the hosts were unable to fight back.

Deeming, meanwhile, was part of a Truro City side which endured a tough afternoon at York City. 

The Tinners lost 4-0, with Ollie Pearce notching a first-half hat-trick for the home team before Alex Newby made it four late on. 

The defeat leaves Cole’s club bottom of the division, five points adrift of safety. 

Elsewhere, winger Akeel Higgins came on in the 84th minute for Exeter City who claimed a comfortable 3-0 home win over Barnsley in Sky Bet League One. 

The Baggies academy graduate replaced Jack Aitchison in the closing stages on a day where efforts from Ilmari Niskanen, Jayden Wareham and Reece Cole secured an important victory for the Grecians. 

It was a result which helped lift Akeel’s side out of the bottom four in time for Christmas.
