Away from Albion | Five Baggies youngsters feature on Valentine's Day

Akeel Higgins in action for Exeter in their home kit

Five Baggies academy graduates were in action for their respective loan clubs on Valentine’s Day.

Winger Akeel Higgins came on in the 66th minute of Exeter City’s goalless draw with Northampton Town in Sky Bet League One.

The 20-year-old replaced Johnly Yfeko at St James Park where the Grecians were unable to find a way past the Cobblers despite dominating for large periods.

The draw leaves Exeter 14th in the table, seven points clear of danger after 30 matches played.

Elsewhere in the Football League, midfielder Cole Deeming completed the opening 45 minutes of Cheltenham Town’s 0-0 draw at Barnet in Sky Bet League Two.

Luke Young came on in place of the 19-year-old down in the capital city. Arkell Jude-Boyd was shown a second yellow card in the ninth minute of stoppage time, but the Robins managed to claim a hard-fought point to move nine clear of the relegation zone.

There was a Rushall Olympic debut for Dan Chimeziri on Saturday. The teenage forward, who joined the club on Friday, came on in the 57th minute of their 0-0 draw at home to Bamber Bridge in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, replacing Sam Unitt.

The Pics are 15th in the table, six points outside the bottom three.

Defenders Jamal Mohammed and Evan Humphries played the entirety of their fixtures.

Mohammed’s Gloucester City AFC drew 2-2 away at Chertsey Town in the Southern League Premier Division South, a result which means they’ve dropped down to third in the standings.

Joe Hanks’ effort had the visitors 1-0 up at the break, only for Conor Lee to equalise minutes into the second period. Hanks scored again after the hour, but the hosts levelled matters in injury time when Nathan Minhas converted a penalty.

Humphries, meanwhile, helped Oxford City secure a 2-1 away triumph at Worksop Town in the Enterprise National League North.

Strikes from Josh Parker and Josh Ashby put Evan’s men 2-0 up late on. Aleksandrs Starcenko pulled one back with minutes remaining, but City held out to secure maximum points.

Oxford’s victory moves them up to within two points of safety after 32 encounters completed.
