Albion earned their place in the last-four of the Birmingham FA County Cup with a 5-1 win against Leafield Athletic on Sunday.

The Baggies made a quick start and created two early opportunities, Emma Congrave forcing the visitors’ goalkeeper into a good save and Trina Geaves heading wide.

Within seven minutes, though, Albion were ahead - Shannon Stamps taking control of the ball and curling a superb shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

That lead was doubled midway through the first-half when Stamps played Mariam Mahmood through on goal, who expertly rounded the goalkeeper and slotted in.

Leafield rarely threatened the hosts during the opening period, and the Baggies would have had a third ahead of the break if Hannah George, Isabel Green and Jess Davies had converted any of their chances.

Albion picked up where they left off after the restart and – on 55 minutes – captain Hannah George finished well to make it three following another brilliant bit of play by Stamps.

The home side continued to dominate, Mahmood and Stamps both going close to extending their advantage further.

But instead it was left to top scorer Leigh Dugmore to net their fourth, and substitute Portia Milan Langley-Wright managed to round-off the scoring for Jenny Sugarman’s team with an emphatic effort before Leafield grabbed a late consolation goal.

Albion’s next game is at home to Wolves Women on Wednesday, January 26 at Coles Lane (KO 7:45pm).

Albion Women: Bastock, Brown, Green, Davies, George, Stamps, Greaves, Embley, Dugmore  Mahmood, (Langley-Wright), Congrave (Robinson).
