Monique Robinson’s hat-trick completed a second-half turnaround for Albion Women against Loughborough Lightning on Sunday afternoon.
Charlie Fripp’s side were a goal down by half-time, but soon spun their FAWNL Northern Premier encounter on its head with Robinson at the heart of their efforts.
Now on their ninth win in-a-row, the Baggies will look to continue their rampant run of form with a trip to Norwich City next weekend (ko 2pm).
The hosts were in the mood to continue their positive momentum from the off in Perry Barr, and they had several opportunities to do so. Riya Mannu and Monique Robinson had two stabs at a loose ball in the visiting penalty area, with the latter prodding into the grateful arms of Teresa Murphy.
Like the majority of their efforts throughout the day, Lightning hit the hosts on the counter moments later. This time Ella Jarowicki cut inside on her left foot, slicing into the sky with a speculative attempt.
Looking to add to her scoring streak, Jess Collyer was next to turn the screw as she first struck over the bar, prior to seeing a low drive palmed away by Murphy.
But despite all of their attacking efforts in the first period, their work was undone just seven minutes from time as an own goal gave the visitors the lead.
Albion’s dominance, though not initially reflected by the scoreline, continued in the second period - Mannu saw Murphy leap to tip a strike over the crossbar.
Eventually they got a reward for their pressure as Robinson began her stellar second-half showing. Her first was tailored by Izzy Lane; she raced past a defender to cut back for the midfielder - leaving the midfielder to sweep away a deserved equaliser.
And she took less than eight minutes to make it a brace, stepping up to place a sumptuous free-kick beyond Murphy via the inside of the post.
Ella Haughey hit the post with a close-range strike, and the Baggies saw a goal chalked off as they continued to push for a third.
But in the end it was Robinson again who made it three - after she was fouled in the penalty - stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to ensure a ninth victory on the bounce.
