Albion Women produced a valiant performance but were ultimately knocked out of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup by Women’s Super League side Everton on Thursday.
The Baggies had plenty of forays forward but were ultimately undone by the better side at the Alexander Stadium.
Siobhan Hodgetts-Still opted for familiarity with her line-up for Thursday’s encounter, with just one change from their previous match as Lucy Day was replaced by Zoe Creaney.
The visitors took the lead inside the first 10 minutes. Yuka Momiki exploited a yard of space behind the Baggies’ defence before poking past Charlotte Clarke.
Before Maz Pacheco’s cross hit the upright, Hodgetts-Still’s side were beginning to feel their way into proceedings, but Momiki’s second soon saw the hosts two behind.
The second half brought more of the same for the visitors. Ornella Vignola scored early on with a calm finish, prior to Toni Payne’s effort and Everton’s fourth.
The Toffees scored a fifth moments later through Issy Hobson, just before substitute Ellie May had Albion’s best opportunity of the game, where she scooped over from close range on the half-volley.
Mia Sorrentino and Monique Robinson tried their luck from range, but were unsuccessful, leaving Albion to mull defeat, despite a brave showing against a professional side.
Albion: Clarke; Green (Day 59’), Creaney, George; Reynolds, Orthodoxou (Watkins 59’), Rabjohn, Haughey; Warner (Sorrentino 70’ (Pullen 85’)), Robinson, Oakley (May 70’).
Substitutes: Johnson, Jhamat, Evans, Kehoe.
