The opposition
Sheffield United have strung some really impressive results together in recent weeks and have pulled themselves away from the bottom three.
Friday's guests had an incredibly poor start to the 2025/26 term, losing nine of their opening ten matches in all competitions. The Blades were sat inside the relegation zone up until the end of November, but now look to have found their feet and are quickly climbing up the division.
United are unbeaten in six and had won four in-a-row before being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Norwich City in midweek - a fixture which they took a second-half lead in.
They'll head to The Hawthorns looking to record a third successive away triumph having beaten local rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City recently, bagging three goals in both encounters. Their overall away record reads played 10, won four and lost six.
Chris Wilder is Sheffield United's leader. He's now into his third stint as boss after replacing Ruben Selles who lasted just a few months in the role. Wilder, 58, has managed over 300 games for the club. He also played more than 100 games for them in the 80s and 90s.
Memorable meeting
The Baggies cruised to a 4-0 triumph over the Blades at The Hawthorns in August 2021.
Jack Robinson's own goal put Albion ahead at the break and they went on to score three further goals in the second period.
Dara O'Shea, Alex Mowatt and Callum Robinson all found the net on a terrific night on home soil. Check out the highlights below.
Recent record on home soil against the Blades
Albion 2-2 Sheffield United, December 2024
The Baggies and the Blades played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns last December. Torbjørn Heggem's glancing header made it 1-0 after 24 minutes, but Sheffield United quickly turned the game around with two goals in three minutes from Callum O'Hare and Tyrese Campbell. Albion scored an equaliser in the middle of the second period - Tom Fellows' strike taking a crazy deflection and ending up in the corner of the net. Check out the highlights below.
Albion 0-2 Sheffield United, October 2022
Carlos Corberán's first game in charge of Albion ended in defeat to the side from Yorkshire during the 2022/23 term. Both Blades goals came inside the opening 23 minutes, with Iliman Ndiaye and Oli McBurnie beating Alex Palmer.
Albion 1-0 Sheffield United, August 2022
The Baggies secured safe passage to the second round of the Carabao Cup thanks to a narrow 1-0 triumph at home to the Blades in August 2022. Karlan Grant scored the only goal of the game, heading in the winner in front of the Brummie Road End in the second period.
How's that for a stat
Albion have the opportunity to extend their unbeaten home run to seven matches on Friday night. The Baggies have won three and drawn three of their last six at The Hawthorns. Their last defeat in front of their own fans was to Derby back in the middle of September.
Sheffield United can extend their unbeaten run to seven games. The last time the Blades went seven without defeat was during a run of 11 between October and December in 2024.
The Blades are four unbeaten against the Albion (D2, W2). Both fixtures in the 2024/25 campaign were played in December and ended level. Albion's last win over United was a 1-0 triumph in the Carabao Cup in August 2022 at The Hawthorns.
The overall head-to-head record is incredibly close. Albion have beaten the Blades 47 times, with United claiming 46 triumphs over the Baggies. There have also been 29 draws. Friday's battle will be the 123rd between the two clubs.
