The Baggies have suffered back-to-back defeats to Derby County and Middlesbrough having gone four unbeaten at the start of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Visitors Leicester City were relegated from the Premier League last season and will have their sights set on an immediate return.

They were held to a goalless draw at home by Coventry City last Saturday, but sit one point and three places above Ryan Mason's men at this early stage after making a solid start.

The opposition

Leicester City's main target this season will be winning promotion straight back to the Premier League following their relegation from the top flight of English football last year.

The Foxes have made a steady start to the second-tier term, claiming three victories and two draws from their opening six matches, losing just once to Preston North End over a month ago.

Friday's guests have won one (Charlton Athletic 1-0), lost one (Preston North End 2-1) and drawn one (Oxford United 2-2) on their travels so far and will be on the hunt for a seventh straight triumph at The Hawthorns having secured wins at the home of the Baggies in 2015 twice, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2023.

Dutch football legend Ruud van Nistelrooy was in charge up until the end of June. Spaniard Marti Cifuentes swooped in to succeed the former striker having previously managed QPR between October 2023 and the summer of 2025. The 43-year-old has also held top positions in his homeland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

City have won the Championship the last two times they've competed in the division (2013/14 & 2023/24) and are one of the favourites to lift the trophy once again in May 2026.

Memorable meeting

Albion produced a fantastic performance against the Foxes in the Championship in April 2010.

James Morrison opened the scoring with a thunderous strike before Robert Koren bagged a brace as the Baggies cruised to a 3-0 success.

Supporters can watch the highlights below.

Recent record on home soil against the Foxes

Albion 1-2 Leicester City, December 2023

The Foxes secured a last-gasp victory over Albion the last time they visited The Hawthorns just under two years ago. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's goal meant the Baggies were trailing heading into the final moments. Josh Maja popped up to score his first for the club in the 89th minute, a strike which looked to have secured a point. However, Leicester broke in stoppage time and bagged the winner when Harry Winks slotted into an empty net.

Albion 0-3 Leicester City, September 2020

The Baggies' 2020/21 Premier League campaign started with a disappointing defeat to Friday's guests. After a goalless opening period, the visitors scored three times to seal three points on the first day of the new term. Timothy Castagne was first to hit the target before Jamie Vardy converted two spot-kicks.

Albion 1-4 Leicester City, March 2018

Albion suffered a heavy loss against City towards the back end of the 2017/18 season. Salomon Rondon had scored inside the opening ten minutes to hand the hosts an early lead, but efforts from Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Kelechi Iheanacho and Vicente Iborra guided the away team to a comfortable victory.

How's that for a stat

Albion will desperate to halt a run of six straight defeats to Leicester City at The Hawthorns. The last time the Baggies defeated the Foxes in front of their own fans was in 2010.

Both the Baggies and Leicester have scored in six of their first seven games each in all competitions this season. Albion failed to hit the net against Derby two weeks ago, with the Foxes drawing 0-0 at home to Coventry in their most recent fixture.

Albion have won two and drawn one of the three matches they've played against a team managed by Marti Cifuentes.

Leicester City have drawn their last two games (Oxford United 2-2 and Coventry City 0-0). The last time they drew three in-a-row was in September 2024 when they drew against Crystal Palace and Everton in the Premier League and then Walsall in the Carabao Cup.
