West Bromwich Albion return to Sky Bet Championship action following the first international break of the 2026/27 campaign with a battle against West Midlands rivals Birmingham City at The Hawthorns on Saturday lunchtime (ko 12.30pm).

The Baggies were beaten at Molineux in their last fixture, but have made a positive start to the term overall and head into this weekend's clash having collected 14 points from the first eight encounters.

Visitors Blues are tenth. They've earned 11 points so far this season and drew 2-2 at home to Middlesbrough in their most recent match.

Both games between the two clubs ended level last year - 1-1 at The Hawthorns in November 2025 and 0-0 at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park in February 2026.

The visitors

Birmingham City have made a solid start to the season and will head to The Hawthorns having lost the joint-fewest amount of Championship matches so far in 2026/27.

The Blues, who sit tenth ahead of Saturday's showdown, have suffered just one defeat in their eight second-tier games - a 2-1 setback at Norwich City in early September. They're two points off the play-off positions, and securing one of those six spots come the beginning of May will be the target for the men from St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

Birmingham haven't played Premier League football since the 2010/11 term, but reaching the top flight of English football in the next few years is very much the main objective for this weekend's visitors.

Chris Davies' team have produced some strong performances on the road already this season, winning at Swansea City in the Carabao Cup and defeating both Wrexham and Derby in the Championship, and they'll be hopeful of delivering another solid showing at The Hawthorns.

The 41-year-old was appointed in the summer of 2024 and led the side from the second city to the League One title in his first year at the club. Davies, a former coach at Swansea City, Leicester City, Liverpool and Celtic, will take charge of his 121st Birmingham game on Saturday having won 66, drawn 29 and lost just 25 of his 120 so far.

Classic clash

Albion secured a thrilling 3-2 Sky Bet Championship victory over Blues on a Friday night at The Hawthorns in March 2019.

Gary Gardner's early goal gave the visitors a half-time lead, but Dwight Gayle equalised moments into the second period. Lukas Jutkiewicz nodded Birmingham back in front, only for Jay Rodriguez to level matters once more from the spot.

Jake Livermore won it late on, firing in from just outside the box in front of the Birmingham Road end. Check out the highlights below.

Did you know...?

Albion have the chance to extend their unbeaten run against Birmingham City to four matches this weekend. The Baggies had suffered four straight defeats to their West Midlands rivals prior to that sequence starting in February 2024.

Albion have suffered just one defeat in their last eight home games against Birmingham City, winning four and drawing three.

The Baggies are 11 games unbeaten on home soil, last losing in front of their own supporters on February 21, 2026 to Coventry City. They've won four and drawn seven of those 11 fixtures.

The Blues have lost just one of their last seven away games in all competitions - a 2-1 reverse at Norwich City in early September. All three of their victories in 2026/27 have come on their travels (Swansea City, Wrexham and Derby County).

Saturday's guests have scored five headed goals so far in the second tier, which is more than any other team heading into the weekend schedule.

The food and drink offering will to extend beyond the Fan Zone, with three additional concession units located around the exterior of The Hawthorns.

Supporters can find the units outside the East stand, and the home and away section of the Smethwick End.

New matchday specials at The Hawthorns

Albion are delighted to introduce a brand-new range of matchday specials, available for supporters to enjoy throughout the 2026/27 season at The Hawthorns.

As part of the club’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the supporter experience, the Baggies' in-house catering team has developed a series of upgraded food offerings designed to bring even more flavour to matchdays in B71.

Following the recent success of winning gold for Overall Matchday Hospitality Experience at the Stadium Events & Hospitality Awards, the team is continuing to focus on delivering improvements across both the club’s hospitality areas and the general concourse experience.

The specials will run for two to three home fixtures at a time, rotating throughout the season to give supporters a wider variety of options alongside the usual matchday favourites.

For Albion’s home encounters with Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers, supporters in the East Stand, Birmingham Road End and West Stand will be able to purchase the new loaded chilli nachos.

In addition to the rotating specials, a new ‘Panjabi Grill’ chicken tikka & fries will be available throughout the season across all four stands, bringing authentic Punjabi flavours to matchdays at The Hawthorns.

Both the matchday specials and the chicken tikka & fries will be priced at £8.50 and available to purchase from the moment turnstiles open. Supporters are encouraged to arrive early, as only a limited number of specials will be prepared for each fixture. Further dishes will be revealed across the course of the campaign, giving supporters even more to look forward to on every visit to The Hawthorns.

Hawthorns helpers

Lookout for our Hawthorns Helpers around the ground on Saturday.

Wearing their bright pink uniforms and carrying 'Here to Help' flags, the team will be positioned at key points around the stadium to assist with directions, answer questions and help supporters throughout their matchday journey.

The post-match bar will be open again once again this term. Entry is free for all season ticket holders, with the bar staying open for 90 minutes after the full-time whistle.

Sky Sports will be shown on the TV screens and DJ Andy Gulch will be performing a live set, so head on down and join us after the battle with Birmingham.
