The opposition
Birmingham City have made a solid start to life back in the Sky Bet Championship having eased to the Sky Bet League One title last term.
They've collected 24 points from their first 16 games (W7, D3, L6) and are one of several teams jostling for space inside the top six of the division.
Chris Davies' men will have their sights set on securing a spot in the play-offs come the start of May, and the ownership group invested heavily in the playing squad in the summer to give the 40-year-old the best possible chance of achieving that.
Wednesday's visitors have been in fine form in front of goal lately, scoring four for the third time in their last four fixtures on Saturday, defeating struggling Norwich City 4-1 at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.
Like many teams in the second tier, they've had inconsistent results on their travels. Blues have played eight away league games so far in 2025/26 and have won two (Blackburn & Preston North End), drawn one (Wrexham) and lost five (Leicester City, Stoke City, Coventry City, Bristol City and Middlesbrough).
Davies, a former coach at Reading, Celtic, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur, was handed the job in June 2024 - his first senior managerial position. His Blues record is incredibly strong, winning 52 of the 78 games he's managed in all competitions (D13 & L13).
Memorable meeting
The Baggies claimed a 3-1 victory over Blues in the Premier League in September 2010.
Cameron Jerome's close-range finish put the visitors 1-0 up at the break, but an own goal from Scott Dann, a strike from Peter Odemwingie and a header from Jonas Olsson turned the contest around in the second 45.

Recent record on home soil against the Blues
Albion 1-0 Birmingham City, February 2024
The Baggies recorded an important win over their neighbours at the start of February in 2024. Andi Weimann was introduced to the action in the 69th minute and went on to bag the winner with just five minutes left on the clock, converting from close range after meeting Darnell Furlong's cross. Supporters can watch the highlights of that particular game below.
Albion 2-3 Birmingham City, September 2022
Albion suffered a narrow defeat at home to Blues towards the start of the 2022/23 term. Scott Hogan opened the scoring inside the first 15 minutes, but Jed Wallace quickly responded for the hosts. Hogan made it 2-1 nine minutes into the second period and went on to secure his hat-trick inside the final 20. Brandon Thomas-Asante converted a late penalty for the Baggies, but it was the Blues who were ultimately victorious on the night.
Albion 1-0 Birmingham City, October 2021
Karlan Grant was the hero for the hosts when the two teams went head-to-head in B71 in the 2021/22 campaign. The forward fired in a winner for the Baggies with just 15 minutes remaining, beating Matija Sarkic with a well-struck effort from the edge of the box.
How's that for a stat
Albion and Blues are going head-to-head for the 138th time on Wednesday. The Baggies have won 61 of the previous clashes, losing 39 and drawing 37.
Aune Heggebø will be hoping to score for the third game running. The Norwegian international forward has notched three times in his last two appearances, netting the winner against Oxford before the international break and bagging a brace at Coventry last weekend.
The Baggies have lost just one of their last seven home games against Birmingham (W4, D2). Blues' only win at The Hawthorns in those seven fixtures was a 3-2 triumph in September 2022.
Chris Davies' side have scored exactly four goals in three of their last four fixtures, defeating Portsmouth and Millwall 4-0 and Norwich City 4-1 - though all three of those triumphs came at home.
