Leeds United beat Albion 5-0 at The Hawthorns on Tuesday evening.

Romaine Sawyers’ own-goal put the visitors ahead early on, before strikes from Ezgjan Alioski, Jack Harrison and Rodrigo gave them a commanding advantage at half-time.

Raphinha then added United’s fifth midway through the second period as they secured all three points on a difficult evening for the Baggies.

Hopeful of a repeat performance against Leeds, Sam Allardyce originally named an unchanged starting XI to the team that drew 1-1 with Premier League leaders Liverpool just 48 hours earlier. However, Lee Peltier had to come in for Kieran Gibbs ahead of kick-off after the left-back picked up an injury during the warm-up.

Despite an uneventful start to the game, from nothing Albion found themselves behind inside 10 minutes - Sawyers’ backpass directed into the net rather than the feet of Sam Johnstone.

And Leeds extended their lead just after the half-hour mark, Alioski arrowing a powerful shot into the top right corner after the ball had fortuitously fallen to him on the edge of the area.

Five minutes later Leeds had their third - Harrison playing a one-two with Patrick Bamford and lifting the ball over Johnstone - and they rounded off a clinical first-half just before the interval through Rodrigo’s heavily deflected shot.

The Baggies had a good opportunity to pull one back when Grady Diangana was denied at close range by Illan Meslier, but instead United scored the fifth and final goal of the game as Raphinha hammered home on 72 minutes.

Albion: Johnstone, Furlong, Ajayi, O’Shea, Peltier; Robinson, Phillips (Ivanovic 45), Sawyers, Gallagher, Diangana (Krovinovic 73); Grant (Pereira 61).

Substitutes: Button, Kipre, Harper, Grosicki, Austin.
