Albion Women’s eight-game unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Stoke City Women.
Faye McCoy scored a hat-trick and Amy Hughes netted the other for the visitors, as Albion struggled in difficult conditions at Walsall Wood.
In teeming rain and strong winds, it was the Baggies who thought they had taken the lead early on.
Jade Arber had the ball in the back of the net but the play was pulled back for an adjudged foul from Fran Orthodoxou in the build-up to the goal.
The visitors took the lead shortly after when McCoy’s header looped over Vanessa Kinnerley in the home net.
Just before the half hour mark the visitors doubled their lead.
Hughes latched onto a through ball in behind the Albion defence and poked underneath Kinnerley to make it two.
The Potters made it three only a matter of minutes later when a Charlotte Clarke goal kick found its way to McCoy who tried her luck from distance, catching Kinnerley out in the Albion goal.
As the pitch and rain got heavier, Albion had their best chance of the game just after the hour mark.
Nat Murray’s effort from outside the area struck the visitor’s crossbar with Clarke saving Leigh Dugmore’s header who reacted quickest to the rebound.
Stoke had chances to make it more but Kinnerley made several smart saves to keep it at three for the majority of the second half.
However, McCoy scored Stoke’s fourth and her third with moments left. Her free kick from the left squirmed away from Kinnerley at the near post.
Albion will look to bounce back with another home clash, they take on Huddersfield Town on Sunday, March 15.
