Brunt: Let’s enjoy this cup run

Chris Brunt is thoroughly enjoying Albion’s Emirates FA Cup adventure and has targeted further success in this season’s competition.

Slaven Bilić’s side recorded an impressive 1-0 victory against West Ham United to ensure they will be in the hat for the fifth-round draw for the fourth time in six seasons.

And Brunt believes it would be nice for the fans to experience an FA Cup run this season.

“I thought the boys were excellent from start to finish. The last 15 minutes were a bit backs to the wall and having to dig in with Semi getting sent off but I think we coped with it very well. I thought we were very good in the first half, we possibly could have been two or three up at half-time. We had a couple of good chances.

“It was a good game, it was an enjoyable game for everybody bar West Ham. I don’t think they’ll have enjoyed it too much. It was an opportunity again for lads who haven’t played a lot of football to get out there and show what they can do, and hopefully we have put a few ideas into the gaffer’s head.

“Football is all about taking opportunities when they come your way. The lads have done very well in the league this season and there hasn’t been an awful lot of opportunity for the boys on the fringes of the squad. The last two cup games, we have won them both with a clean sheet, which is always good.

“It’s no news to anyone that our league form hasn’t been great over the last few weeks, so it’s food for thought for the manager. It is all we can do. Your squad is probably as good as your players that aren’t getting in the team there and we have got a good squad of players there. Hopefully we can keep that cup run going, it would be nice for the fans to get further in it - we haven’t done that too many times over recent years.

“I have been on here loads of times telling you how good of a player Gareth Barry is. Everyone knows it is a pleasure to play with him - and hopefully he feels the same about me - I’m not so sure though! We are both experienced players and we both know what we can do and what we can’t do. You go out there and make the most of your abilities on the pitch and there’s a few young lads around the team and it probably benefits them to have the likes of us and Ahmed and Charlie Austin around them.

“We have always got a great support away from home and it’s nice to send them off with a good performance and a great result.”
