On this day 18 years ago…

Sunday, April 21, 2002 is a date engrained in the collective memory of the Albion family.

A day that offered so much and delivered - boy, did it deliver.

The Baggies had been plying their trade outside the top flight for 16 years and had never played in the Premier League, having spent almost all of the previous decade cemented in the middle of the Division One table.

With just eight games of the 2001/02 season remaining Albion trailed Black Country rivals Wolves by 11 points, with the old enemy occupying the second automatic promotion place.

But Gary Megson’s tenacious side did not give up, with six wins in seven taking them into the final day of the season with destiny in their own hands.

Beat Crystal Palace and a place in the Premier League was theirs.

Sit back, relax, and watch one of the great promotion chases unfold here
