Albion extended their unbeaten start to the Sky Bet Championship campaign as they saw off QPR 2-0 courtesy of maiden goals from Nathan Ferguson and Matheus Pereira.

Academy graduate Ferguson, 18, netted a superb solo goal - carrying the ball from his own half before drilling a fierce 25-yard strike into the bottom corner and celebrating in front of the 2,124 Baggies faithful at Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

Summer loan signing Pereira then made sure of all three points late on when he sent a low free-kick under the wall and into the back of the net, coming after Yoann Barbet had seen red for bringing down substitute Hal Robson-Kanu when clean through.

The Baggies pair picked the perfect moment to open their accounts for the club, ensuring Slaven Bilić's side have now gone their opening nine league matches without tasting defeat - only the third time in the club's history.

It was also a maiden clean sheet for Albion this season, coming in a game which saw them open the scoring for only the second time this term.

The Baggies will be looking to continue their fine form when they travel to Leeds United on Tuesday.

Charlie Austin saw an early shot well blocked upon his return to west London, one of three former R's players in Albion's starting XI alongside Matt Phillips and Darnell Furlong.

Grady Diangana, the sole change from last weekend's win over Huddersfield, was a constant livewire in the early exchanges and drilled a teasing ball across the face of goal after 18 minutes.

Phillips was dispossessed when in a promising position shortly before the break, with Albion the more threatening side during an entertaining first half, albeit one which saw neither goalkeeper seriously tested.

Yet that all changed eight minutes into the second half.

Versatle defender Ferguson, who has been with Albion since the age of eight, picked up the ball in his left-back position inside Albion's half and ran to the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a 25-yard strike into the bottom corner - capping a man-of-the-match display.

Austin forced a smart parried save from Joe Lumley soon afterwards, before Diangana stung the palms of the R's goalkeeper as the Baggies threatened to double their advantage.

Sub Kyle Edwards also went close before Albion made the points safe.

Robson-Kanu was hauled down on the edge of the area when clean through, Barbet duly saw red and, from the resulting free-kick, Pereira sent the ball under the wall and past Lumley.

Edwards and Robson-Kanu, both lively off the bench, again went close to bolstering Albion's lead as Bilić's Baggies triumphed in the lunchtime kick-off in London.

Albion: Johnstone, Furlong, Ajayi, Bartley, Ferguson, Livermore (c), Sawyers, Phillips (Edwards 71), Pereira (Krovinović 87), Diangana, Austin (Robson-Kanu 61).

Subs: Bond, Gibbs, O'Shea, Zohore.
