Fantastic Young Lions debut for Ferguson

Nathan Ferguson’s first appearance for England Under-20s ended in success as they beat Switzerland 1-0 at the Leichtathletik-Stadion.

The Albion defender completed 90 minutes and helped the Young Lions keep a clean sheet in the triumph, which was sealed late on thanks to Jack Clarke’s strike.

Jonathan Leko, who is currently out on loan at Charlton Athletic, was an unused substitute in the win after he started against the Netherlands a few days earlier.

A full report from Monday night’s game can be found here.

Elsewhere it wasn’t as enjoyable an evening for Matt Phillips, who played the full game in Scotland’s 4-0 defeat at home to Belgium.

The result all but ends any chance of Steve Clarke’s side qualifying automatically from Group I for Euro 2020, though they do still have the chance to earn a place at next summer’s tournament through the Play-Offs in March thanks to their successful Nations League campaign.
