Bilić in search for Albion ‘black holes’

Slaven Bilić says he will be looking to close “black holes” in Albion's game when his stars return to Sky Bet Championship action at Middlesbrough on Saturday (ko 3pm).

The Baggies shone brightly before the international break with their 4-2 victory over Cardiff last time out taking them to top of the table.

Albion had led the Bluebirds 3-0 and Bilić, who admits he has set high standards for his team, expects his side to nullify the errors that almost allowed Neil Warnock’s men back in.

“It’s not as though before Cardiff we were playing so, so and then everything went well. It was a normal conclusion from everything we’ve been doing so far, but in that game we played really good football.

“Until the last 20 minutes or so, when we stopped, so we still have those black holes.

“It is our job, not to nullify them, but to minimise them. Because, as I said after that game, if we are 3-0 up with 20 minutes to go it should be game over, big time! It can’t be that we go to 3-2.

“We played really well and I expect us to continue that.”

Saturday’s hosts Middlesbrough, who are winless in four, lie 20th in the Championship standings - but Bilić insists that’s a false position for a team of their quality.

“It’s probably not what they expected, they’re a big club,” he added. “Like us, they are always one of the contenders to go back to, or to fight for, the Premier League.

“They didn’t start well, but on the other hand, if you take a look at their team and their squad, they have a majority of players who have played in the Premier League.

“They are Premier League players and they are very dangerous. At the moment it’s not going well for them but that’s why they are very dangerous opponents, especially at home. But we are ready for them.”
