Phillips: It’s a joy to play in this team

Matty Phillips admits it’s a “joy” to play for Albion under Slaven Bilić after he netted his sixth goal of the season at Stoke City.

The Baggies returned to the top of the Sky Bet Championship courtesy of a 2-0 win at the bet365 Stadium - propelling Bilić’s men above Preston, Swansea and Leeds.

And the pacy winger, who put Albion in front after just eight minutes, says it’s now about backing up Monday night’s performance at Hull on Saturday.

“We want promotion and it’s great getting on the scoresheet,” said the Scotland international.

“Personally it’s brilliant. As a team we’re playing some good stuff and creating a lot of chances. As I keep saying it’s a joy to play in.

“At times we can play a lot better. We can be a lot more fluent, but we’re working hard and with the three points tonight we’ll push on for Saturday.

“It’s always a tough place to come with them being bottom of the table we knew they were going to be fighting and as I say it was a professional performance.

“Scoring goals is the best feeling in the game. As I keep saying, come the end of the season as long as it contributes to promotion then I am happy.

“We came here knowing that we could put them to the sword and create chances and I feel that is what we did. It’s very tight at the top so nothing is done yet but as long as we keep picking up the three points it will stand us in good stead.”
