J-Rod ‘upbeat’ at halfway point

Jay Rodriguez says his team-mates are “upbeat” following Albion’s narrow first-leg defeat at Villa Park.

The Baggies took an early lead against the Villans but were pegged back late on with the hosts netting twice in four second-half minutes.

But Rodriguez reminded The Hawthorns faithful heading for the stadium on Tuesday night that “it’s only half-time” and insists there is belief in the dressing room that Albion can turn the tie around.

“Obviously we’re disappointed and it’s not what we wanted but we’re halfway,” he said. “We know what we have to do.

“We’ll pick the bones out of that, go back now, recover, and prepare for Tuesday.

“There are big key moments in the game that we’re frustrated with, but we can’t moan too much, we’ve got to prepare and go for it on Tuesday.

“We’ll go back to the training ground now and see what we need to put it right on Tuesday.

“We’re upbeat and like I said, it’s half-time.

“We’ve got a full game now to go and do what we need to do to get what we need.

“It’s not a result that’s come from a lack of hard work. The atmosphere here was great and it played a big part for them, I’m sure it will be the same at The Hawthorns.”
