Moore offers fitness update on Baggies duo

Darren Moore says Matty Phillips is expected to be fit and firing to take on Ipswich Town at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

The Baggies winger did not travel to Friday’s game at Leeds after returning from an ankle injury against Sheffield United a week earlier.

Albion’s head coach was more cautious on Kieran Gibbs, who was also missing at Elland Road, with his chances of a return on Saturday rated as “50/50” by the Baggies boss.

“Matty is okay and he should be fine for Saturday. He has only recently returned from his ankle injury and we don’t want to push him too hard, too soon,” Moore confirmed.

“Gibbo is slightly different and we will have to keep an eye on him throughout the week. He has a slight hip problem.

“Hopefully he can make good progress but at the minute I’d have to rate him 50/50.

“We’d obviously like all our players available to us but this is football and it’s always better to be cautious with a player when they have a knock.”
