Phillips: Goals breed confidence

Matty Phillips believes finding form in front of goal in pre-season can provide him with plenty of confidence heading into the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

The Baggies No.10 bagged a brace during Saturday’s 4-0 triumph at Glanford Park against League Two Scunthorpe United.

And despite the clash with the Iron being a friendly fixture, Matty insists scoring goals in any capacity at any level is always beneficial.

“It’s great in any game to score goals,” said Phillips.

“The manager has challenged me to get goals and to keep on getting in the box.

“Hopefully I can keep doing that and take it into the season.

“I think scoring goals at any time brings confidence, regardless of what type of game it is.

“It was a really good team performance against Scunthorpe. I thought we created a lot of chances and I’m obviously delighted to get on the scoresheet.

“It’s always good to get a win and put in a good performance too. There was a lot of good stuff against Scunthorpe.

“The boys are in good shape and we’re all feeling good.”
