Albion fell just short as they suffered a 5-3 defeat in a lively Under-18 Premier League North clash with Middlesborough on Saturday.
The Baggies had led early on at Rockliffe Park, as Jamie Soule scored a header after a fast break down the right.
Soule would double Albion's lead and his goal tally after 20 minutes, tucking away from close range with his right foot.
However, the hosts got themselves back into the game just before the half-hour mark, with Stephen Wearne tucking home a penalty for Boro.
But Albion restored their two-goal lead through an excellent one-two between Stanley Asomugha and Soule, allowing the former to score with his left foot inside the box.
The second half would be a difficult one for Albion, though, with Boro scoring early on with another Wearne penalty.
On the hour mark, Nicholas Hood levelled the score, before putting Boro ahead with just over 10 minutes to play.
Cain Sykes would complete the scoring for Middlesbrough in injury time, as he scored the eighth goal of the game.
