Jay: 'I'm really proud of the team'

Jay Rodriguez spoke of his pride in the team after helping Albion secure a 2-0 derby victory at midlands neighbours Aston Villa.

The striker drilled home his 17th goal of the season from long range at Villa Park to help seal all three points and local bragging rights.

It came just four minutes after Hal Robson-Kanu had sent a looping header over Lovre Kalinic to put the Baggies into a 41st-minute lead.

"I'm really proud of the team, everyone involved," said Jay.

"To come here and get the 2-0 win is important, and it's just another mark for us for where we want to be.

"We got to rest, recover now and get ready for Tuesday (an away trip to QPR)."

He added: "It's a good three points and we've just got to kick on now."

Victory means Albion have now won seven of their last eight away matches in the Sky Bet Championship, keeping four successive clean sheets on the road in all competitions.

Jay continued: "First half I thought we played some really good football and created chances.

"In the second half it was a totally different game, where we showed our grit and what we can be.

"The lads who have come on have fit straight in, it's just the way the squad is, everyone can replace anyone, and that's a real key thing for us.

"I think we've shown that we've got a great group of lads, great group of staff and it's a good atmosphere at the moment."
