Competition ‘fierce’ ahead of Boro - Moore

Darren Moore says competition for a place in his starting XI is “fierce” ahead of Saturday’s clash with fellow promotion-chasers Middlesbrough at The Hawthorns (ko 3pm).

The deadline-day additions of Jefferson Montero, Stefan Johansen and Jacob Murphy further bolstered Albion’s options following the arrival of Mason Holgate earlier in January.

Albion have lost just once in 14 fixtures going into the weekend - a run of results that extends back to November.

And Moore insists his January signings will add "an edge" to his side prior to a busy month of fixtures.

“I’m delighted with the four players, I think they’re the right players. I said all along that we will only bring the right players in if we think they are right for the team.

“I thought we lost a bit of an edge up top in Harvey, Oli and Bakary going away, so I just tried to replace them at the top end.

“Jacob and Jefferson are two exciting players that add a nice bit of cutting edge. We know about Mason, he’s been superb since his arrival.

“We also have Stefan with us and he gives us more competition in midfield. I’m really pleased with all four and the Albion public will get to see them soon.

“We welcome them to the football club and they give us an edge, a different dimension, and fierce competition, which is what we want here.

“In terms of where we are in the league it gives us more competition to get in the starting XI or the squad, and that’s what I want here at West Brom.”

And Moore has called on Baggies fans to bring their ‘A-game’ to The Hawthorns for what he expects to be a “tough” game.

“I’m calling for the fans to get behind the team, as they have done, and sing their hearts out. Bring your voices and be nice and loud because we’ve got tough opponents coming to The Hawthorns on Saturday.

“It’s a wonderful challenge for us and a game that we look forward to.”
