Gayle: Goals equal good service

Dwight Gayle puts his horde of goals this season down to the tremendous service provided by his team-mates.

The 28-year-old and joint-top scorer Jay Rodriguez have combined to net more than half of Albion’s goals this term, grabbing 21 apiece.

The pair’s superb haul of 42 strikes in as many league games is the highest tally of any Sky Bet Championship forward line.

But Dwight insists, while he and Jay may make the headlines, their team-mates deserve huge credit for teeing them up.

“It’s fantastic for the team to have both of us scoring so many goals,” he said.

“It just shows the service that we are getting from behind. It’s a compliment to what the coaches and management are doing to help our games.

“We both want to score as many goals as we can but the most important thing for us now is that we get promotion - I’m sure neither of us would be too fussed if neither of us scored again for the season but we got promoted.

“It’s important to win your home games. We had a bad stint halfway through the season and it will be important for us to get back to regularly winning at The Hawthorns before the play-offs as it’s going to be an important game with our home tie.

“Hull are a tough team and they have had some good results this season. We know what we are going to be up against after the game down at their place and we will have learnt from it and hopefully we can put that right on Friday."
