Gibbs praises ‘brave’ back three

KIERAN Gibbs says Albion’s “brave” back three deserve all the plaudits following today’s 2-0 win over Millwall.

Darren Moore has developed a new brand of football at The Hawthorns which sees his goalkeeper and defenders play out from the back - a big contrast to the styles employed by previous regimes.

‘Gibbo’ admits it is a playing philosophy that has taken time to adjust to, but insists the Baggies are beginning to reap the rewards for their hard work.

“The clean sheet is really nice today because I feel that the back three, especially, have deserved it,” he said.

“They work really hard and they have conceded unlucky goals. Credit to them, today they were outstanding.

“There are still some loose ends that we need to tie up when it comes to playing out from the back but I’m really impressed with the bravery of the goalkeeper and the centre-backs.

“We’re being asked to apply a new philosophy in the way we’re playing and it’s not easy to just switch that on.

“We’re going through a process at the moment so credit to them for sticking to what the coaches are asking them to do.

“That’s the sign of good players and a good team.”
