Alan Buckley replaced Keith Burkinshaw as Albion manager after the Baggies had struggled at the start of the season.
The redevelopment of The Hawthorns may have played a part, as the Throstles had to play their first five league games of the season away from home.
Buckley had been a prolific goalscorer in the lower divisions with neighbouring Walsall, and had led them to a number of cup successes before building his managerial reputation at Grimsby Town.
