In a wonderful exhibition game, Albion were finally beaten 5-3 by the Hungarian champions Honved in Brussels in front of a crowd of 55,000.
Honved, fielding many of the players who had been in the Hungarian side which had beaten England 6-3 at Wembley just a year earlier, were given a fierce examination by the Throstles but were just too strong in the finish.
Johnnie Nicholls scored twice and Ronnie Allen got the other Albion goal.
