Albion PL2 Stoke PL2 match report

AN Albion PL2 side containing James Morrison and Oliver Burke recorded their first win of the season by beating Stoke City 3-2 in a thrilling game at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies took the lead inside 11 minutes as Burke latched onto an excellent pass from Morrison before cutting inside and smashing the ball into the top corner.

It was then Stoke's turn to have an early spell of pressure as Alex Palmer saved Mark Waddington's effort and Tre Pemberton shot just wide.

Midway through the half Albion went close to doubling their advantage when Jon Leko played a clever one-two with Callum Morton, but the former could only squeeze the ball inches wide.

The Potters had a chance to equalise just before half-time when, following confusion in the box, Josh Tymon found plenty of space - but he stabbed his shot just past the post.

After the break Albion started strongly and went two ahead on 51 minutes through Rekeem Harper's tap-in after great build-up play from Morrison and Burke.

Stoke pegged a goal back seven minutes later, though, when substitute Krisztofer Szereto's low shot from inside the area beat Palmer and deflected in off Kyle Howkins.

The away side then levelled the game on 79 minutes when Oliver Shenton headed in from close-range.

But it was Jamie Smith's men who stole the win with just three minutes remaining thanks to Leko's acrobatic effort.

Leko's night ended slightly prematurely shortly after when he was shown harsh second yellow card in stoppage time, but Albion managed to see the game out and claim a maiden three points.

ALBION: Palmer, Meredith, Healy, Howkins, Ferguson, Harmon; Morrison, Leko, Harper; Morton, Burke (Clayton-Phillips 69).

Substitutes: Keranovic, Wilding, Bradley, Azaz.
