ALBION fell to a 1-0 Sky Bet Championship defeat at Hull City courtesy of Fraizer Campbell's first-half strike.

The Tigers frontman registered the only goal of the game in the 38th minute when he reacted quickest to fire home from close range after Jackson Irvine's header had rebounded off the crossbar.

Jarrod Bowen had earlier headed against the woodwork for the hosts while Ahmed Hegazi saw his effort cleared off the line for the Baggies at The KCOM Stadium.

The two sides, wearing black armbands, observed a minute's silence ahead of kick-off to commemorate the Armistice Centenary and pay their respects to those who lost their lives in last Saturday's tragic events at King Power Stadium.

There were warm receptions from the home support for Jake Livermore and Conor Townsend as they both started against their former club, with skipper Chris Brunt and Hegazi returning to the starting XI.

But it was the hosts who threatened first after just four minutes, Bowen heading against the crossbar from Kamil Grosicki's deep cross.

Grosicki curled high and wide when well placed soon after while Jay Rodriguez volleyed off target for the Baggies at the other end.

Townsend saw penalty appeals waved away having been upended before Albion lost Brunt to injury after 33 minutes, Sam Field introduced off the bench.

Campbell blazed over when in space inside the area before Hegazi saw his header cleared off the line from a corner.

Yet the Tigers took a lead into the break when, from a short corner, Irvine headed against the bar and Campbell reacted quickest to slam home the rebound.

Albion started the second period on the front foot and with plenty of vigour, Rodriguez seeing his strike blocked by Daniel Batty.

Head Coach Darren Moore turned to substitutes Bakary Sako and Oliver Burke in the 66th minute in a bid to spark an equaliser.

But, despite plenty of possession, the Baggies could not force a leveller and were left to taste defeat on Humberside for only the second time in their last eight visits.

ALBION: Johnstone, Dawson, Hegazi, Adarabioyo, Phillips (Sako 66), Livermore, Brunt (c) (Field 33), Townsend, Morrison (Burke 66), Barnes, Rodriguez.

Subs: Myhill, Mears, Hoolahan, Robson-Kanu.
