Albion 5 Coventry 2 match highlights

ALL the action from The Hawthorns as Albion claim the inaugural Regis Shield.

The Baggies rounded off an unbeaten pre-season campaign as they triumphed 5-2 over Coventry City.

Summer loan signing Harvey Barnes and striker Hal Robson-Kanu both bagged a first-half brace apiece before Jake Livermore got in on the act.

Reise Allassani and Jordon Thompson netted for the Sky Blues in an entertaining friendly watched by 7,590 at The Hawthorns.

The commemorative fixture paid tribute to Cyrille Regis, who played for both clubs, and is intended to be an annual celebration of his life and legacy, with Darren Moore's Baggies side first to lift the Shield.

It rounds off a pleasing summer schedule for the Albion Head Coach, whose side face Bolton Wanderers on home soil next weekend in their opening fixture of the 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship season.

Albion took firm control of the encounter early on as they struck twice in as many minutes courtesy of new recruit Barnes.

The wide man struck home a fine opener from distance after just six minutes before following that up two minutes later with a neat finish from close range.

Albion made it 3-0 just after the half-hour mark when skipper Chris Brunt sent through a superb ball which Robson-Kanu latched on to, rounded Liam O'Brien and slotted home.

Jonson Clarke-Harris spurned a good chance for City to reduce the arrears, dragging wide.

And Wales international Robson-Kanu duly headed home a fourth in the 40th minute from an inch-perfect Barnes cross.

Allassani netted a fine strike for the Sky Blues just before the interval, firing home into the top corner.

Robson-Kanu should have secured his hat-trick three minutes after the restart but volleyed over from close range.

Yet Livermore soon made it 5-1 with a drilled finish from close range.

Sam Johnstone, making his non-competitive Baggies bow, pulled off some smart saves to preserve Albion's four-goal advantage.

But there was nothing he could do to prevent Coventry substitute Thompson's 78th-minute header.
