ACCORDING to the club tape measure, Manchester United were thrashed within an inch of their lives at The Hawthorns, 5-1 the final score before a poor pre-Christmas crowd of 16,554.

Stan Davies scored twice, Tommy Glidden, Joe Carter (pictured scoring against Villa) and “Tug” Wilson scoring the other three.

The United win was part of a massive goalscoring spree in the Black Country that saw the Throstles register 32 goals in seven home games.
