Hat-trick wish for Dwight Christmas

DWIGHT Gayle has revealed a hat-trick was on his Christmas wish list in the lead up to Saturday’s 4-0 win at Rotherham United.

The 28-year-old striker took his Sky Bet Championship goal tally to 13 with a fine trio as Albion enjoyed a fairytale in New York Stadium.

It was a Christmas miracle for Gayle who asked Jake Livermore for a hat-trick and three points while en route to South Yorkshire.

“We were talking on the bus on the way to the game and Jake said he wanted to get everyone a gift,” Dwight revealed.

“I said I’ll be happy with three points and a hat-trick and it’s weird that it ended up happening.

“I’m buzzing to help out the team, after the Sheffield United win I thought it was vital we got another win here.

The Baggies were backed by a sell-out following of 2,597 in South Yorkshire and Dwight admits he could not be happier for Albion’s band of travelling fans.

“To be fair I couldn’t believe it,” he added. “To look up there and see the whole stand packed was great and it was really nice for us to get them the three points.

“It’s nothing more than they deserved because they sang throughout the game and they gave us that extra push.”
