Winger George Lee made his debut for the Throstles after moving from Nottingham Forest for £12,000.

Lee was on the winning side as a goal from Cyril Williams was sufficient to see off Charlton Athletic at The Hawthorns.

Lee played 295 games for the Albion, including the 1954 FA Cup Final, and scored 65 goals before leaving in June 1958, becoming Albion’s oldest outfield player in the process.

He returned to The Hawthorns in the early ‘60s to work as coach to the youth side.
