Newcastle United U18s 0 Albion U18s 3

ALBION’s under-18s won their opening U18 Premier League North fixture 3-0 away at Newcastle United on Saturday.

Morgan Rogers and Eoin Ashton went close to opening the scoring for Mike Scott’s side inside a positive first 15 minutes.

And it was Ashton who broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark when he converted Taylor Gardner-Hickman’s cross.

After the break another Gardner-Hickman delivery set-up Morgan Rogers to double Albion’s advantage on 60 minutes.

Rogers then netted his second, and the Baggies’ third, with a fantastic strike from the edge of the area on 78 minutes to round-off a resounding victory.

“After a very encouraging pre-season programme both myself and Peter Gilbert were really pleased with the players’ application and work-rate,” said Scott.

“It’s great to come away with a positive team performance to start the new season. We will now look to build on this in next week’s game away at Liverpool.”

ALBION: Przybek (Cann 28), White, Sharpe, Martinez, Delaney (Williams 70), King (Thorndike 88), Taylor, Ashton, Asomugha, Rogers, Gardiner-Hickman.

Substitutes: Smith.
