Moore delighted with 'proven' Gayle

DARREN Moore has outlined the thinking behind the "striker swap” that was completed today and which will see Dwight Gayle lead the line for Albion.

Salomon Rondon has gone to Newcastle United on a year’s loan while Gayle prepares to lead the attack at The Hawthorns.

Darren says: “I think the exchange was in the best interests of both clubs.

"Dwight Gayle is a proven goalscorer in the Championship and to have someone with that goal threat and prowess in our numbers was attractive to us - I think this is a move that could work out for both clubs.

"We’re delighted to have him on board. Dwight’s fitness will perhaps need a little fine-tuning as the schedule of the Premier League clubs is different but in terms of match sharpness and fitness, he’s ready to go.

“Salomon was keen to take the opportunity Newcastle were offering and I am sure our supporters will be sad to see him go but I believe that Dwight’s talents will soon establish him as a fans’ favourite.

“He is quick, sharp off the back of the last defender and is a natural goalscorer - left foot, right foot, in all positions. Somebody with those qualities where it really matters is going to be very important to us."
