‘It’s a good building block’ - Phillips

GOALSCORER Matt Phillips heaped praise on his team-mates for the never-say-die attitude they displayed at the City Ground.

The Scotland international winger netted a thunderous half-volley to grab a late point for Darren Moore’s men - simultaneously sending Albion’s 2,000-strong travelling army into delirium.

And Phillips says the Baggies’ strength of character dragged them to his 87th-minute equaliser.

“Hopefully this is the start of something really good for the club,” he said.

“It’s a big point to get us going. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy tonight. There are no easy games in the Championship.

“We’ll learn from our opening two games - particularly from Saturday.

“We showed great character to come back tonight.

“It’s a good building block and we’re still very early in the season.”

He added: “I definitely caught my goal well which was great but I’m most pleased with the result. I was just delighted that we got a point on the board.

“The fans were brilliant throughout - they were great on Saturday - now we need to recover and be prepared for Saturday when we will hopefully get three points.”
