Conor: Let's build some momentum

ALBION’s latest debutant Conor Townsend says tonight’s Carabao Cup Round One tie against Luton Town is the perfect opportunity to build up a head of steam.

The 25-year-old, who joined on a three-year-deal from Scunthorpe United this summer, made his Baggies bow in the 4-3 win over Norwich at Carrow Road last weekend.

It was the first victory of the season for Darren Moore's men. And Conor has pointed to the knockout clash with the Hatters as a chance to put a run together.

"In the first two games we've shown bits of what we can do," he said.

"I still think it wasn't the complete performance on Saturday. There's still things we need to improve on.

"But getting that first three points sets us up for next week.

"The gaffer spoke about momentum quite a bit.

"We can't rest on the victory against Norwich. It's a long season and we need to put a few together."

In a gruelling schedule, and with QPR making the trip to The Hawthorns in just four days' time, Baggies fans can expect some squad rotation from the gaffer.

It could present Conor with another opportunity to show his worth.

He added: "The lads who are in the starting XI [against Luton] have a chance to show what they can do and stake a claim for the place.

"There's a lot of competition for places.

"The lads who are in the team need to perform and keep the shirt. The lads who aren't need to be pushing them.

"Hopefully that can bring the best for West Bromwich Albion."
