Interviews

Albion can benefit from clinical Gayle

DWIGHT Gayle loves scoring goals. And that’s exactly what he’ll do to aid the Baggies’ promotion mission.

"Scoring goals is one of the best feelings," Dwight told WBA TV in his first interview after agreeing a loan switch from Newcastle United.

"I love scoring goals and hopefully I can score as many as I can here."

The proof is in the pudding. Our new striker finished the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship campaign with 23 goals as the Magpies won promotion at a canter.

He knows just what it takes to succeed in a famously difficult league. And it's not always about flying out of the traps.

"It's a difficult league to get used to," he nodded.

"You need a bit of variety.

"At Newcastle we didn't start strongly but it was about mentality, getting results and building on performances each week.

"I know the experience and quality we have in the dressing room.

"I'm looking forward to getting out there, performing, making the fans happy and getting promoted."

The motivation behind his move to The Hawthorns? The same as the rest.

"The manager attracted me," Dwight added.

"He's really enthusiastic about my game. I'm buzzing to come down and can't wait to get started.

"I've spoken to the few of the boys who play here and they've all had good things to say. I spoke to James Morrison and I know Jake [Livermore] from when I was younger.

"The whole club is moving in the right direction towards getting promoted this season. We've got a great team and we're all focused on achieving our aim."
