Livermore pleased with England returns

JAKE Livermore is pleased England are nearing their ‘main objective’ of qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup after wins over Malta and Slovakia.

The Albion midfielder played the full 90 minutes in the 4-0 win in Malta, before coming on as late substitute at Wembley against Slovakia - a game which the Three Lions won 2-1 after going a goal behind early on.

The result means England remain top of Group F and are just two points away from securing their place in Russia next summer.

“Qualifying is the main objective,” said Jake.

“We’ve had two difficult games for different reasons and we’ve got maximum points. That’s the most important thing.

“To go behind against Slovakia could have been difficult for us but the lads have done fantastically well to get the win.”

And Livermore is clearly enjoying his involvement with England in the latest batch of international fixtures.

“We’re very together and very close as a team.

“We’re confident in what we’ve got in the dressing room.

“The lads showed great character in both games.”
