Fletcher recognised at Supporters' Club Awards

Skipper presented with crystal bowl after setting club record

ALBION’s Official Supporters Club have paid tribute to captain Darren Fletcher for his record run of consecutive Premier League starts with the Baggies.

Fletcher was presented with engraved crystal bowl at last night’s Supporters’ Club annual awards for his 86 consecutive starts which established an Albion record for the Premier League.

Chairman John Homer said: “From the moment this man came into our club he has been Mr Consistency and a wonderful influence.

“We are proud to have him as our captain and our leader and we felt it only right that remarkable run of appearances should be recognised and we should show him just how we think of him.”

Albion CEO Martin Goodman and professional development coach Darren Moore were among the guests as the Supporters Clubs made their choices for the seasonal awards.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster won the main Player of the Year award and was also the choice of the Kidderminster, Walsall, Sutton Coldfield, Disabled Supporters, Women and Golf Society branches.

Jonny Evans was the Player of the Year choice for the London branch and received a special award from Supporters' Club sponsors AA Jewellery.

Sam Field, on his 19th birthday and just two days after his Premier League start at Burnley, was the choice of Young Player of the Year while Hal Robson-Kanu’s memorable winner at Southampton was named Goal of the Season.

Fletcher, Foster, Field and Robson-Kanu were all at The Hawthorns to receive their awards while Goodman accepted Evans’s on the defender’s behalf.

Meanwhile Albion’s official awards remain open for voting.
