The skipper on Spurs ahead of Saturday’s showdown

Fletcher assesses Tottenham test

DARREN Fletcher believes Albion will need to be “on top of their game” when they face title-chasing Spurs on Saturday lunchtime.

The Baggies, who head to north London sitting eighth in the Premier League following back-to-back victories over Southampton and Hull respectively, will come up against a Tottenham team in fantastic form.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have won their last six fixtures in league and cup and a win over Albion would see them climb to second in the table, just four points behind leaders Chelsea.

The skipper is expecting a tough afternoon in the capital city but says his side can take plenty of heart from the 1-1 draw they recorded at The Hawthorns back in October.

“It’s obviously going to be a difficult game against Tottenham, as it always is for us,” admitted Fletcher.

“They’ve hit a bit of form recently.

“Spurs are a top-class team who score a lot of goals.

“We managed to get a point against them earlier on in the season.

“They penned us in during the first half but we fought back really well in that game and enjoyed a good second period.

“They scored a late goal against us at The Hawthorns after putting us under a lot of pressure.

“We know we are going to have to be on top of our game on Saturday, but we have done well there in the past and hopefully we can get another positive result.”
